Historic rainfall across southern Missouri on Thursday and Friday dropped an estimated 6–12 inches of rain, triggering catastrophic flash flooding and record water levels along the Black River near Lesterville. The rapidly rising waters led to hundreds of water rescues across the region as emergency responders worked around the clock to reach stranded residents.

As part of Missouri's regional Strike Team 2, St. Louis Firefighters and IAFF Local 73 members deployed Friday afternoon to assist with the large-scale rescue effort. Shortly after arriving, members began searching the flooded river corridor for people trapped by the swift-moving floodwaters.

Local 73 President Dan Clark confirmed that St. Louis Firefighters successfully completed three rescues on Friday. During one rescue, firefighters located three individuals stranded in a tree overhanging the floodwaters and safely brought them to shore before conditions worsened. Among the firefighters involved in the rescue were Roger Meyer and Justin Alemond, whose training and professionalism helped ensure the operation's success.
